Jewish Life

SMC Hillel is a welcoming community for Jewish students from every kind of religious background. Hillel provides a place for Jewish students on campus offering social, religious, educational, and community based programs to accommodate each student.

Jewish learning

- Weekly lunch-and-learns on Thursdays from 11:15-12:30 on campus

- D'var Torahs (or other reflections based on Jewish holidays, texts, and current events) will be posted regularly here.

- One-on-one learning/chevruta opportunities

Jewish living

- Home hospitality is available for Jewish holiday meals and Shabbat dinners at Julie's house (on Venice beach). Just gather a few friends, choose a date that works for you, and contact Julie to schedule it!

-Meet Jewish students at college campuses throughout Southern California at our transfer-events and collaborative programs with Hillels at UCLA, USC, CSUN, UCSB, Pierce and Valley Colleges, AJU, and LMU!

- Celebrate Jewish holidays on the quad at SMC with free food, fun activities, and opportunities to be involved in social justice projects

- Attend events at other Los Angeles area Hillels for free (including Shabbat dinners at UCLA, social events and holiday celebrations at CSUN, USC, and UCSB)

- Travel to Israel on a Birthright trip

- Attend a weekend Shabbaton at a Jewish summer camp in Malibu

- Travel to New Orleans (or another destination) to do social justice work during school vacations

- Help to plan other events based on your interests and passions...
